Weave Pole Workshops - Aug & Sep, 2024

Ace Russell

Beck Field
Meadowbrooke Dog Training Center

1811 Holston River Rd, Knoxville, TN 37914 (outdoors on grass)

Beginner and Advanced Sessions

Beginner Workshop - Sep 14, 2024, 9-12 AM

Review of training methods and equipment. This level workshop is for dogs that don't yet perform 6 inline poles consistently. Some previous agility training is strongly advised, but you are welcome to participate even if you haven't started weaving with your dog yet. This is a good opportunity to get fundamentals so that the rest of your weave pole training is safe and effective.

Advanced Workshop - Aug 10, 2024, 9-12 AM

Does your dog:

  • require repeated attempts to enter the weave poles correctly?

  • approach the weaves too fast to make a sure and safe entry?

  • lack enthusiasm for weave poles?

  • have trouble getting into a comfortable weaving rhythm?

  • perform correctly much of the time, but cautiously and slow?

  • have difficulty going from 6 to 12 poles?

  • pop out before the end of the set?

These are among the most common difficulties as dogs progress in their weave pole training. We address each dog's issues individually, because one size does not fit all.

For both workshops:
$40 for working spot
$10 for audit
Limit 8 working spots, unlimited auditing
Workshops will be rescheduled if weather causes cancellation. If you prefer a refund, just let us know!

Ace starts each workshop session by meeting the dogs and handlers, getting an idea which issues are relevant to which teams, giving a brief summary of methods and equipment, and then helping individual teams improve their skillset and plans for future training and trialing. Each team should get at least two 6-minute work sessions.

All participants are encouraged to respectfully audit each other's sessions, because we can all learn something from every team we watch!

Ace Garbo.jpg

Ace Russell has been fascinated by weave poles and actively involved in agility since 1999. In 2002, his Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Ollie, became the first Corgi dog to achieve both the Master Agility Championship (MACH) and the breed championship (CH) titles. In 2007, Ace founded the weave pole company Way To Weave. He championed safety-conscious regulations for weave poles that have been adopted by several agility organizations. Ace continues to design and manufacture safe and high quality agility equipment.
